There are 2 Public University, 35 private colleges, 16 university colleges and 1 Malaysian campuses of the foreign universities . The first private college in Malaysia was set up by the passing of Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996. There are 4 foreign university branch campuses in Malaysia –Monash University (Australia), University of Nottingham (UK), Curtin University of Technology (Australia) and Swinburne University of Technology (Australia).more
In Malaysia, students can expect to receive degrees that are internationally recognized from universities in Australia, UK, New Zealand, France, Canada and Germany. The students can enroll in the twining degree programs to pursue an international degree program and gain incomparable experience of studying under cultural environment of two countries. The students can study leading bachelors degree programs from foreign universities in Malaysia and that too at a very reasonable price. There are three types of twining programs in Malaysia, wherein, students opt for either 2+1 or 2+2 or 3+0 agreement. The 2+2 arrangement of the twining degree program is popularly called as the American Degree Programs.
In 2010, there were approximately 80,000 + international students in Malaysia from more than 100 countries worldwide. The Malaysian educational institutions work with the international students of various cultural backgrounds to provide them relevant support and assistance during their enrollment and study. The college has now grown from the first 50 batch of its students to a full grown university. The first MQA approved program that started for post graduation in Malaysia was “Masters in Comparative Finance” in the year 2014. Muslim College Malaya was set up with the mandate of offering only masters and doctoral courses to its students till the year 2011, after which the college changed its mandate to include other courses as well.
University of Malaya is the oldest public university that was set up in the year 1949 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The university comprises of 12 faculties offering education through 2500 faculty members. This is the highest ranked university in Malaysia and an academic institution of great repute in the whole Asia as well.
